Grade 2A

Dear Parents/Guardians

A big welcome to Year 2A on a new and exciting year. It has been a busy beginning to the term and the students have adjusted well. Our focus as a class for this term is to make positive learning choices.

During our Literacy lessons we have been learning about writing Information Reports and are also practicing the skill of identifying information while reading our given texts.

During our Numeracy lessons we focused on Number and Algebra on the first four weeks. Students got to work with materials such as MAB blocks, unifix blocks, dice etc. to learn the concepts of place value, addition and subtraction. Our new focus for the next couple of weeks is Measurement and Geometry. Students have already done well improving on existing skills.

Our Integrated studies focus for this term is Health. Students have had fun learning about building relationships, making friends and promotion of health & well-being. We were also lucky enough to have staff from St John’s Ambulance come to our school for an incursion to speak to our students about emergency situations and filling out the ‘My Important Information’ card to keep on their fridge at all times.

Lastly I would like to remind parents that our library sessions are on Tuesday mornings. During this session students are allowed to borrow any book for enjoyment purposes. The library book borrowed needs to be returned the following Tuesday. Students will not be allowed to borrow if they do not have a Sirius College book bag.

Once again, a warm welcome to all. I am looking forward to getting to know all my students and their families. Feel free to make an appointment with me if you have any concerns.
